A nutrition literacy training was conducted from May-July 2018 for female rural handicraft artisans in Village Bhaankar in the state of Punjab, India, as part of a Health and Wellness Initiative organized by the Virsā Project Pod.

Through nutrition talks and recipe suggestions, the artisan women were taught about the health benefits of a low-fat, whole food, plant-based diet, the importance of seasonal fruits and vegetables, and the negative health effects of cow’s milk and milk products, which are a staple in their diets. The women also learned about portion control, the role that fat and dairy play in development and exacerbation of chronic diseases, personal hygiene, and other healthy lifestyle practices. We are delighted to see the positive impact of the Virsa Project Pod on this rural area, and will share more information about the successes as their work in the community continues to progress.
