BUILDING A NUTRITION-CLIMATE COALITION

There is growing recognition that the path to address the global climate crisis is through food. The Nutrition-Climate Coalition has begun to address this problem head-on. The Coalition’s 3 planks will scale up a broad population shift towards plant-based foods in order to mitigate climate change, improve human health, and reduce healthcare costs.

Our animal-based diet has a larger impact on climate change than all transportation impacts combined!

THE 3 PLANKS OF THE NUTRITION-CLIMATE COALITION

1

Conduct public education, organizing, and advocacy.

The Coalition will utilize grassroots organizing, groundbreaking research, a sophisticated communications structure, and educational materials to inspire people to take action.

2

Teach doctors, nurses, medical students, and other healthcare professionals about evidence-based nutrition.

The Coalition will educate and provide support to both future and current medical professionals on the importance of nutrition in public health through the Moving Medicine Forward Initiative, a nutrition advisory committee, ongoing support for healthcare leaders, and healthcare advocacy.

3

Develop, implement, and support policies and programs to promote more plant options and decrease animal food consumption.

The Coalition will pursue strategies aimed at enhancing the availability, affordability, and familiarity of plant-based foods and amplify policy and legislative efforts that accelerate a shift towards more plant-based food.
