Snacks should be quick, easy, and convenient.  There are so many healthy snacks to choose from such as fresh fruit and cut veggies, baked tortilla chips, bean dips, salsas, whole grain and low-fat crackers, and oil-free popcorn.  If we shift our “snacking mindset,” we discover that it can also be cheap and easy to incorporate healthier whole foods as snacks.

Baked Potatoes: Baked sweet and white potatoes, whole or in wedges, stored in batches, make for convenient and satisfying snacks or lunches.  Potatoes, with some hummus, bean dip, or other spread, is a light, yet satisfying snack to keep you going between meals.

Roasted Chickpeas:  Season chickpeas with your favorite spices such as garlic, onion powder, nutritional yeast, or a Mexican seasoning blend and then roast in the oven. The longer you roast, the crunchier the texture. You can find this recipe, and other delicious whole food plant-based recipes here.

Cut Veggies:  Prepare cut veggies ahead or purchase already cut veggies.  While this may seem more expensive, often times the processed foods are more expensive.  Pair delicious cut veggies with your favorite oil-free dip.

Edamame:  You can find edamame in the frozen section in most grocery stores.  Steam them and lightly, salt and enjoy.

Nut Butter and Banana/Fruit Wraps: Put a tablespoon or two of your favorite nut butter (no added oils or sugar) with a sliced banana, or other fruit, on top of a whole grain wrap.  Cut into halves or quarters as smaller snacks.

Muesli or Granola: Snack on a small bowl of muesli or granola with your favorite plant-based milk.  You can also eat muesli dry or with a cup of sugar free applesauce. Try out Morning Granola recipe, and recipe video.

Air Popped Popcorn: Spray popcorn with vinegar or low sodium soy or tamari sauce, adding your favorite spices such as garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasonings, and nutritional yeast flakes.

Frozen Fruit: Mix your favorite frozen berries and plant-based milks for a creamy slushy snack. You can also add frozen fruit such as bananas or mixed berries to a blender for a sorbet style ice cream.
